What it does, exactly
Read-only by design
Mailattic speaks IMAP in one direction only. It never issues a write command to your server - nothing is moved, flagged or deleted while it reads. It is a backup tool, not a mail client: it does not send mail.
One ordinary folder
Every message lands as a normal .eml file next to a searchable index, in one local folder you pick. Nothing proprietary, nothing hidden - and Time Machine backs it up like any other folder.
Full-text search
Search every account at once - senders, subjects, message bodies - and open any hit in the reading pane right away. Browsing works exactly like the mailbox you know.
Works with your provider
Gmail with an app password, iCloud with an app-specific password, Outlook and Microsoft 365 with Sign in with Microsoft, and any other IMAP server. Mailattic recognizes the provider from your email address and fills in the rest. Microsoft shows its own consent screen for that sign-in - our publisher verification is still pending, so it will say the publisher is unverified.
Deleted mail stays yours
When a message disappears from the server, your copy stays. Mailattic marks it with a badge instead of removing it, so a cleanup on the server never costs you the archive.
Exports without lock-in
Take a folder, an account, the results of a search or the whole archive out as .eml files, mbox, an Apple Mail importable bundle, Maildir or PDF, with the file layout you want. Exports are copies - nothing touches the archive or the server.
Honest progress
Gmail caps how much mail you may download per day. Mailattic respects that cap, shows you where the sync stands, and continues where it left off instead of pretending to be finished.
Credentials in the Keychain
App passwords and Microsoft sign-in tokens are stored in the macOS Keychain, where the system protects them - never in plain text next to your archive.
No cloud, no telemetry
There is no account with us, no cloud copy and no analytics. We run no server that could see your mail - the only connections Mailattic makes are to the mail providers you set up.
